Before the Netflix film, Erivo rose to stardom after playing the role of Celie in the Broadway musical adaptation of The Color Purple. She has since gone on to star in a slew of notable films and television shows including Bad Times at the El Royale, Harriet, The Outsider, and Genius. Erivo will have more exciting starring roles in the future, as she will star as the Blue Fairy in Disney’s upcoming Pinocchio remake, as well as Elphaba in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.

Deadline reports Erivo will produce Blink Speed alongside Matt Jackson, who has previously produced films like Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Molly’s Game, as well as the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Eric Brown, who wrote the original short story that the film is based on, will be writing the screenplay. Plot details are scarce, but Erivo will be playing a woman who gains a mysterious savant ability after a near-death experience.
Netflix will continue to release exciting original films throughout 2022. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a remake of the 1974 horror classic that boasts Don’t Breathe filmmaker Fede Alvarez as its director, will be released next March. Upcoming Netflix films with release dates include Munich – The Edge of War, a war film starring 1917 actor George MacKay, as well as Bubble, an anime film by Wit Studio. Undated Netflix releases slated for 2022 include Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde and a sequel to Knives Out.
The prospect of Erivo starring in a sci-fi film is an exciting one, as she is one of the most skilled and versatile actresses working today in film and television. Jackson has likewise never been involved in a sci-fi project, but he is also an exciting addition to the film. Here’s hoping Netflix users give Blink Speed a chance upon its future release.
Blink Speed will be released on Netlix.
