On Twitter, the official Xbox account posted a strange video teaser and told fans to “break the code.” The video was then retweeted by the official Cyberpunk 2077 account, confirming that this was some sort of Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox announcement.
While many fans thought that it would just be a confirmation of the Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One controller, going to the Xbox.com site provided more pieces to the puzzle. The Xbox.com version of the teaser, which is shown upon visiting the site, shows a blacked out version of an Xbox One X console. The end of the teaser also tells fans to come back to the site in four days. There are rumors that the Xbox team is planning to make some very big Xbox announcements soon, but this isn’t what most fans will have been expecting.

However, not long after this the design of the Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X was also leaked. A Twitter account called DUDEMAN127 began to tweet the image of the console to several people who had tweeted about the official teaser. It’s unclear where DUDEMAN127 got the image from but the packshot shows an Xbox One X with a blue, gray, and yellow patchwork pattern on it, with the Cyberpunk 2077 controller sitting in front. The patchwork style was likely chosen because of the cyberware that Cyberpunk 2077 characters can use as they can pick and choose different upgrades for their bodies.
Some fans aren’t happy about the design though and also want to know why Xbox thought that this would be a good idea. Some fans feel as though the console’s design doesn’t look as cool as characters like Johnny Silverhand, the Cyberpunk 2077 NPC played by Keanu Reeves. Silverhand’s silver cybernetic arm has a much cleaner look than the dull, matte tones of this Xbox One X console bundle. The design of the console also doesn’t match the design of the Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One controller.
Xbox has also been criticized for offering a Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X bundle when the Xbox Series X will launch so soon after. Developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on Xbox Series X, though not at launch. Xbox and CD Projekt RED could offer a Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X bundle after launch but this could mean that fans have to choose between buying an Xbox One X they don’t need or getting the Xbox Series X at launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases September 16 on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
